Somehow or another your mother-in-law always manages to snag the family Christmas celebration as her own, warding off your protests with a nonchalant “oh – you can do Easter” when you know very well that all the glory goes to Christmas. Make her nutty over the details you can pull off at Easter that will have your family (and privately, your mother-in-law) begging for more.

Easter is important, too

Just because Christmas gets more attention in the media and most people spend months preparing for it doesn’t mean that Easter isn’t just as important. In the Christian calendar, Easter is more important than Christmas because it celebrates the resurrection of Jesus and the reason He was sent to Earth. Cling to that fact, if you to, while you prepare the best family celebration ever.

The odds are with you

Christmas is so limited. Everyone is stressed, there are expectations they can’t meet, and you can’t get outside to burn off any steam. It’s almost a law that you eat too much and speak too little. Easter, on the other hand, is laid back. No one has to rush home to put a bike together, and no one has spent money they don’t have. There is no reason to drink until you can’t see. It’s finally springtime and everyone is gung-ho for getting outside (except maybe Uncle Ralph, but at least he can get to the cigarettes that he’s been craving all afternoon-and you might still want to keep the Wild Turkey away from him).

Great food, great games, the best of times

There are lots of wonderful Easter recipes that can become as traditional as the Green Bean Casserole is at Christmas. And most of them don’t depend on sodium-infused cans of pseudo-nourishment. Impress your family with a menu and a tablescape that will make them think you’re the next Martha Stewart – minus the prison time. Filling your day with games for indoors and out will get people moving as one and bonding over some of the most hilarious moments your family has ever witnessed together. You’ll have the adults feeling like again and the calling for more.

Attitudes be gone

The truth is that your mother-in-law and you are on the same team. You both want to be a part of a great family that loves to be together. Ask her to bring a spring salad or custard for dessert. It’ll be one less thing for you to do, and she might even surprise you by telling you that she’s still worn out from last Christmas and would like to work together on the next one!

This project is a simple way to personalize an project that you and your child can do together.  Teachers would also benefit by having their students create this one of a kind personalized gift for their parents, grandparents, or anyone special to them. For this project an gift for grandparents was created.

For this project you will first to fill the bottom section of your plastic egg. We filled ours with a package of jelly beans, but wrapped candy, chocolates or other types of gift items, such as an Easter wash cloth or pot holder with a bag of candy or nuts would also do.  Once the inside of the egg is filled, put the clear egg top on.  Next, take two strands of fun fur yarn (purple & pink) long enough to wrap all the way around the center of the egg, leaving enough to tie a small bow at the top.  This will hold your egg tightly in place and add visual texture. Next, remove transparent word stickers and place them horizontally across the front of the egg top. Make sure to gently smooth out any air bubbles. Next, remove sticky gems from the package and stick above or near words to add dimension and sparkle. This project is quick, yet such an easy way for your child or student to personalize an Easter gift for those they love.

Supplies:

1 large clear plastic egg with removable top (we chose a lavender base with a clear top) 1 package of sticky gems (we used purple, lavender, pink & fuchsia with an emerald style) 1 package of transparent word stickers (we chose words about grandparents) 1 package of fun fur stripes yarn in pastel colors (we chose purple & pink) 1 package of jelly beans.

Try your hand at a quick and colorful Easter centerpiece decoration for your table setting.  Like most of us, we probably have at least two, maybe three glass vases that could easily be turned in to something really beautiful and unique without breaking the bank.

For Easter craft project you will the following supplies:

Glass vase – We chose to use a tall clear one, with no design on it. Easter paper grass – We chose bright green, but any coordinating Easter color also works. 1 large Easter egg – We chose a pink ceramic egg 5 medium Easter eggs – We chose artificial eggs in pink, blue & crème in a multi colored spotted finish. 3 small Easter eggs – We chose artificial white eggs 1 decorative bird – We chose one in pink, blue and yellow to complement the colors of the eggs. Double sided sticker square

Step 1 – Begin by creating egg shaped forms of the Easter paper grass in your hand.  For this project we made six, but it will vary depending on the width and height of your vase.  Next, take your Easter paper grass forms that you have made and drop them in to the vase one at a time.  This will build height to your project; at least one quarter of the vase should now be full.

Step 2 – Begin layering your artificial eggs, medium then small.  Repeat the process.

Step 3 – Place your large ceramic egg on top of the artificial eggs.  At this point your vase should be half full.  You are now ready to do your final step.

Step 4 – Take your double sided sticker square and apply it to the bottom of your decorative craft bird and press firmly.  Next, carefully place your craft bird in to the vase, resting it side ways on to the large ceramic egg with the feathers facing down.  When you have completed your project, at least one eighth of the glass vase should be empty at the top of your vase.

You now have a beautiful custom and unique Easter decoration for your table top that your guests are sure to ooh and ah at.  Another idea would be to pair your vase with another one facing the other end of your table setting. If you choose to add a second vase, just remember to double your supplies listed above.
