When was the first easter egg hunt ever, and by whom?

I am meaning what are the origins of hunting for eggs? and why did they do it? Is the search for the eggs symbolic of anything?
In fact Easter Egg hunts were going on long before the time of Christ, Christianity adopted easter egg hunting, and many other easter traditions from an obscure Germanic civilization that was conquered by the Romans. Christianity adopted the traditions to pacify the changeover ofPaganism to Christianity.
