I am meaning what are the origins of hunting for easter eggs? and why did they do it? Is the search for the eggs symbolic of anything?

Last night I was watching the News and they were talking about how they had this Easter Egg hunt for dogs filled with Doggie Treats. I live n Arkansas. I have never heard of this before. I have a Sheltie named Bonnie , and she is wonderful.
